2018 Primary Election Candidate Scorecard & Voter Guides –

Gives Only F Ratings In 58th Assembly District Race To Assemblywoman Garcia

Downey, CA–  On May 7, 2018, the Gun Owners of California issued their 2018 Primary Election Candidate Scorecard & Voter Guide.  In the race for the 58th Assembly District, only one candidate received an “F” rating and that reflects Assemblywoman Garcia’s ongoing strong support and consistent voting record to ensure that common sense gun laws such as background checks, gun-free school safe zones, closing the bullet button loophole, banning firearm raffles, prohibiting gun sales to individuals under the age of 21 and other gun regulations Californians overwhelmingly support become law.

At the same time, the California Rifle & Pistol Association issued their 2018 Primary State Election Guide and issued Assemblywoman Garcia an “F” rating.  The F rating is given to candidates who “actively support or sponsor anti-gun” legislation.

“This is likely one of the few times in my life that I am very happy to have received two F grades or ratings on anything.  I am very proud of my record to insist on better protections against senseless gun violence in California.  With the rise in mass shootings, our families, and especially our children, deserve to have elected officials who will stand up for what is right no matter how powerful the opposition.  The F ratings from the Gun Owners of California and the California Rifle & Pistol Association are an honor to have and I am very proud of my voting record that earned them” stated Assemblywoman Garcia.

In 2016, Assemblywoman Garcia also received an “F-“ rating from the Gun Owners of California in both their published primary and general election recommendations.  In 2016, the Firearms Policy Coalition gave Assemblywoman Garcia an “Tyrant F” grade for her votes in support of legislation to create new gun safety regulations. In 2014 the California Rifle & Pistol Association also awarded Assemblywoman Garcia an “F” rating for her record on supporting tough gun regulations.

In addition, the American Conservative Union has labeled Assemblywoman Garcia part of the “Coalition of the Radical Left” and given her an F rating since 2013 notably due to her votes on gun control, anti-political corruption, ensuring a living wage and supporting DACA students ability to attend college.
