by: Leo Briones

It was announced today that former state Sen. Ronald Calderon was sentenced to 42 months in prison on a corruption charge. Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia issued the following statement in response:

“Making sure we have an honest government is one of my top priorities which is why I didn’t hesitate and was the first to call on Senator Calderon to resign, and today, our community received some justice for his crimes,” said Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia. “For too long, my community felt nothing would ever happen to corrupt players, like Senator Calderon, thus I’m appreciative for this verdict and sentence, but the reality is the dark cloud over our community will live with us longer than 48 months. I hope it sends a message to all of our elected officials that corruption has no place in our government and that we stay vigilant.”
